Trauma is passed on intergenerationally through culture, as well as from individual events. That means we’ve pretty much all picked some up!
Trickily, however, trauma may not be obvious, especially when it’s been around a long time. Trauma can work to invisibly drive people, and really hold them back.
Women’s unique experiences also need to be considered, as sadly, most of what we’ve come to understand about trauma comes from a male perspective. This misses a lot! This can leave us feeling unseen, and leads to ineffective approaches to healing.
For women, trauma can often show up as habitually putting others first, losing touch with pleasure, poor boundaries, being “overly nice”, or lacking confidence. These patterns may once have kept us or our ancestors safe, but can become very limiting.
More and more women are now recognising the undermining power of trauma, and wondering what can be done.
Trauma can leave us feeling trapped, helpless, disempowered or in a constant state of “fight/flight”, like we need to hide, justify or defend ourselves. It doesn’t allow us to relax, rest or enjoy our lives.
Other times it’s more subtle, at work in the background. Trauma can quietly undermine us, and lead to self-sabotage.
We can repeat unhelpful patterns, lack feelings of worth, or “play it small”. This can be frustrating and disheartening, and it’s all too easy to blame ourselves.
We often wonder if we’re alone in this experience, or if there’s anything we can do to escape behaviours that we can’t help repeating.
The good news: You are not alone, and there is something that you can start doing today.
The “bad” news: Even if we wish there was, there’s no quick fix or “hack” for trauma.
The first step is to identify the more insidious ways trauma shows up as women. I have been doing this with women for many years.
Next comes empowering women with practical tools they can use themselves. I’ve worked with many approaches, and while no one size fits all, I can support women to find what works uniquely for them.
This course will empower you to direct your own learning, within a community of other women. You’ll build a map of where you are, and implement day-to-day practice. You’ll be supported to find your courage to heal, and move beyond trauma.
Direct your own healing and courageously move beyond trauma
Beyond Women’s Trauma is an online, embodied journey for women to map out the ways trauma is holding them back and provide day-to-day practices to give them the tools to direct their own healing.
There are eight weekly, live, 60-minute webinars. These will also be recorded and available to watch on replay for two months following each session if you can’t attend live.
For facilitators, there’s a 90-minute webinar with Mark Walsh on “Working with Trauma for Facilitators”.
The course also includes over seven hours of self-paced course material with Patricia Aguirre, split into two components:
There is also an option to get only the self-paced material (no live webinars) as part of the Foundation of Trauma pack.
All course materials will be accessible on the Embodiment App and our custom-built course portal, so you can tune into sessions live, watch pre-recorded videos and interact with peers wherever you are.
With Beyond Women’s Trauma, you’ll be empowered to take control of your own healing journey throughout your life.

Founder - Embodiment Unlimited & Sane Ukraine
“Mr Embodiment” (Mark Walsh) is the author of Embodiment, Working with the Body in Training and Coaching, and Embodied Meditation.
He hosts The Embodiment Podcast (1 million+ downloads), The Embodiment Channel on YouTube (over 15M views), and led The Embodiment Conference (1000 teachers, 500,000 delegates). Seeing a theme yet?
He co-founded the Embodied Facilitator Course, and the online Certificate of Embodiment Coaching. He has certified over 1000 embodiment coaches.
Mark gained an honours in psychology (despite been an alcoholic at the time), and has taught widely in the corporate world where he pretended to be a grown up for years, including with blue-chip companies (e.g. Google, Unilever, Shell, Axa, L’Oreal) some of whom he charged wayyyy too much as they made him wear a suit.
Mark has over 25 years of experience of extensive embodied practice. This includes several years of residential live-in aikido training, experience in a bunch of other martial arts, loads of yoga, bodywork, improv comedy, body therapy, conscious dance, experiential anatomy and meditation.
He has also triggered… sorry, taught… many yogis, NGOs, police officers, The NHS and several militaries (e.g. in Sierra Leone).
Mark has taught in over 40 countries (most of which will even let him back in), worked in various war zones, and taught over 50,000 children. He has headlined International Coach Federation events, taught at universities, in The House of Lords, lived with the circus in Ethiopia, founded the Sane Ukraine trauma education charity, and kissed a princess.
Embodiment is his obsession, life’s work, and frankly at this point he couldn’t get a job doing anything else. He dances like your dad at a wedding, impresses cats with his stroking, and offends pirates with his swearing.
He is now tired of writing in the third person. It’s getting weird. You get the point.
“Trauma hurts women. It impacts all of us in direct and indirect ways.
While all people can benefit from healing of trauma, and there are many individual differences, I’ve found over the years that it’s hugely helpful for women to explore how trauma shows up in their experience as a group.
I have seen time and again the specific struggles women face as a result of trauma. This trauma may’ve come from individual situations, but it’s often passed on culturally and intergenerationally as part of our experience growing up in this world.
If you’ve ever found yourself behaving in ways that do not always serve you – whether putting others first, finding it difficult to access pleasure, taking on too much, never quite feeling at east, feeling the need to constantly defend yourself, … it goes on – then trauma may play a part.
Let’s be honest, there’s no “quick fix” trauma work, but this course will provide a way to map where you are now, support you to start your healing journey, and give you the tools to direct your own healing ongoing. Over time, trauma’s impact can be lessened for women. This is my passionate wish for the world.”

Important notice:
If you’ve experienced recent trauma, are in active crisis-mode, or you’re simply not well-resourced to do group education work right now, then the course may NOT be for you at this time.
That’s okay, many of us have been there, but therapy may be what you need at this time.
The self-paced course pack may be a better fit.
All the webinars are live, but they’ll be recorded and available on the learning platform for you to watch for two months following the sessions.
Two self-paced courses – “Introduction to Trauma” and “Embody Your Boundaries” are optional but recommended parts of the live course, and they are pre-recorded.
This includes two self-paced courses – “Introduction to Trauma” and “Embody Your Boundaries” – and no live courses.
It starts on October 6th and ends on November 24th.
However, there is a bonus 90-minute webinar for facilitators on December 2.
No, the course will benefit all women wanting to take control of their own trauma healing. If you’re in a really tough space right now, it may not be for you at this time though.
Between 3 and 5 hours a week including homework.
Each class is 60 minutes.
The sessions will be recorded and uploaded to the learning platform, but you’ll gain the most from the course by attending as many live as possible.
As this is not a certification, there is no minimum requirement to graduate, but we find that the live interaction is better for both learning and accountability.
